My work is all about texture, the single quality that distinguishes textile design from other practical arts and is the special province of hand-weavers.
The most important feature of my practice is the considerable amount of shrinkage that takes place during the finishing process, during which fibres such as wool are made to shrink violently, producing interesting bumps, folds and distortions when woven in combination with other non-shrinking fibres.
The weave structure, fibres, and the finishing technique all work together to achieve selective shrinkage and very special dimensional qualities.
