Textiles designed to merge interior and exterior landscapes, conjure atmosphere and evoke natural cycles.

I am interested in creating dialogues between materials and light.

My current collection of print for interiors utilises patterns created by shibori. The process of folding, stitching and resist dyingcan then be translated into a design for print which allows me to experiment with waterborne pigments, manipulating them so that they interact with opaque, translucent or resist mediums to emulate the way that light is bounced around from surface to surface.

The process of creating shibori is like an exploration of anevolving fabric landscape; changing two dimensional surfaces into threedimensional undulations of valleys and peaks. Dye penetrates the cloth along these folds and when unfolded the cloth seems to illustrate what has transpired and recall its potential for manipulation.

Hand painting is important in my work as it is an opportunity for one process to interact with another. It can be interesting to view landscape as layers of happenings, some enduring, some only fleeting, but all participating in evoking responses. Much of the time we pay little attention to the environment, but sometimes it makes deep and lasting impressions upon us.

It is these moments that my work seeks to commemorate.
