The effects of colour and texture
Not many people realise the importance of colour, that is, how we can use it or where it may influence our livelihood. Nonetheless, colour surrounds our lives and studies have shown that they can cause different feelings to arise in people: with the potential to make an impact on diverse and delicate emotions.
As a textile designer, I hope to design for people who have feelings of depression and loneliness in order to improve their condition. From the results of various surveys (colour, shade, shape and texture) I ran, I designed wallpaper with four different colour combinations for happiness and a knit texture for a comfortable and soft feeling. The purpose of each pattern is to change a typical white wall’s boring feeling to produce a happy mood for a person in the room. The size of these patterns can also be varied in order to be used in other products. For instance, considering these patterns are intended to bring happy feelings from products, they could be also be used for bags, notebooks, or cushions. I hope the combination helps improve people’s emotions.
