My work is concerned with individuality and depth of character being discovered through greater investigation. Thinking of ideas of genetic coding I use traditional florals in repeat with a singular element revealing more. I am using florals to express a textile language subtly referencing the relationship between art and design and science and how they can influence each other.

I place these designs in the context of interiors and wallpapers to surround the individual with a design completely unique to them. Subtlety is key within these designs and a sense of “getting to know them” to discover hidden depths, often only on second glance, is crucial to their success. Themes of coding, hidden messages, characteristics and secret depths all play a large part in the work.

Using the technique of screen-printing I am combining the themes of repetition with the hand-made. Slight discrepancies within each pattern only enhance these ideas of the slips and changes in genetics that make an individual who they are.  By printing these designs by hand there will never be two exactly the same. As with people, this makes them more beautiful and exceptional.
