By 2080 Britain will be 6°C hotter according to the latest DEFRA statistics.  Working to the concept design by the environment, I have produced functional woven fabrics that offer privacy and solar protection, with the aim to create a relaxing interior ambience to combat the stresses of our daily lives.

This project explores local and the global environments, celebrating traditional crafts and local nature, including lavender, blossoms and daffodils.  At the same time exploring sustainability and slow design, I am inspired by the passage of time in nature, in reflection of our impact on the environment. Using the environment as a tool in the design process, I have developed sun bleaching processes with natural dyeing, to create pattern on the product over its life cycle.  As a result, the woven fabrics act as an environmental barometer, respond to the environment and record time as it passes.  Ultimately, they age gracefully.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Worshipful Company of Weavers, Kun Ying Puangroi and all at Doi Tung Sustainable Development Project, Thailand, Matthew Brown, and the Hackwoods for allowing me to photograph their beautiful home.
